We are going to have Gilbert with us for one full week. That is five whole days! So, I have divided you into five groups. Each group will get to take care of Gilbert for one full day next week. Here are your assignments:

Monday: Group 1
Tuesday: Group 2
Wednesday: Group 3
Thursday: Group 4
Friday: Group 5

In your groups, each of you is going to take on a special role pertaining to researching goldfish. Each of these roles is of equal importance and every one is in charge of contributing their share so we can take the very best care of Gilbert. You will have four people in your group and among yourselves you are going to compromise and decide who will perform what role. The roles are:

1. Scientist: The scientist is responsible for researching facts about Gilbert and goldfish in general. You will need to discover:
- background information
- basic characteristics and traits (such as color, species, size, etc)
- fun facts about goldfish.
The Scientist will be in charge of observing Gilbert's personal characteristics on his/her day.

2. Chef: The chef is going to find out Gilbert's diet. You need to identify:
- what food and nutrients Gilbert needs
- when and how much Gilbert needs to fed
- any special techniques needed to feed
The chef will then be in charge of feeding Gilbert on his/her day.

3. Water Patrol: The Water Patrol is going to investigate Gilbert's water habitat. You will need to discover:
- the type of water Gilbert swims in
- special water conditions (temperature, pH level)
- how much water Gilbert will need (hint: you may need to talk to your Scientist about Gilbert's size..)
The Water Patrol will be in charge of testing Gilbert's water quality on his/her day.

4. Comfort Controller: The Comfort Controller is going to need to find out what makes a goldfish like Gilbert happy.

- Does he like to play with toys in the water?
-Does he need certain light?
-Will he want us to bang on his glass?
- What kind of tank will he like best?**
The Comfort Controller will be in charge of making sure Gilbert is happy and has all his needs met on his/her day.

Now that you have your special role, here is a Graphic Organizer. Each group member should print one out and complete it. Make sure you fill out at least 6 main ideas about your topic. You can add more bubbles if you need to! Hold on to your organizer and share it with your group so you can plan your poster.

Here is a special search engine to help you find all your information. Type in your topic and search away! Use this search engine ONLY. DO NOT go on to other sites without your teacher's approval.
